Pediatric Specialties
The area of pediatric plastic surgery encompasses a broad spectrum of deformities from congenital deformities to post-traumatic deformities. The functional and social implications of this area of medicine are life changing and require a diverse set of skills to manage. The central focus is the same, restoration of a child’s appearance to normal as soon as possible.
Dr. Chariker has special training in plastic surgery, craniofacial surgery, maxillofacial surgery and hand surgery that enable him to address this broad and complex arena. Dr. Chariker is codirector of the Commission for Children with Special Healthcare Needs, which is a team of physicians that manage many of the craniofacial deformities in the state of Kentucky. He also is past director of Operation Hope which travels to the Philippines to correct many pediatric deformities. He has been involved with this project for the past 13 years.
“I consider it a special honor that you have trusted me with the care of your child. I do not take that honor lightly. I believe that making your child as comfortable as possible with both me and the treatment process has a very positive bearing on the success of the outcome and the recovery.”
Mark E. Chariker, M.D., FACS
